Destination Imagination is a program that develops valuable skills like creative and critical thinking, problem solving, communication and teamwork through different STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) challenges.
This year, a Van Horne team composed of students from Grades 4 & 5 (“The Flying Burritos from Mars Strike Back”) chose the Improv challenge. On April 6, the Burritos won 1st place at the Provincial tournament which qualifies them to compete at the Global Finals in Kansas City May 22-25!
Each year, 17,000 participants on 1400 teams from around the world qualify for Global Finals (the annual final event for the DI Challenge Experience). Teams that earn the opportunity to attend Global Finals are responsible for their own fundraising to cover their cost of entry and travel. This year the DI organization changed the structure of the entry fee (previously it was per team member but is now a flat fee for every team). Unfortunately, this means for our small team the entry fee has increased 3 fold so we are on the hunt for Improv and Burrito lovers alike to help support our team in covering some of this cost.
If you wish to donate to the Burrito’s cause, please select the amount you wish to donate below and follow the steps to complete your transaction. You can then choose to etransfer your donation to the PAC or drop off a check in the Van Horne PAC donation box.
The Van Horne PAC will manage reimbursements to the DI team after they receive receipts for their expenditures. As the Van Horne PAC is a registered charity, the PAC can issue you (the donor) with a CRA tax receipt for donations above $25 (Please provide your address on the checkout page). Any funds collected in excess of the teams’ Global Finals costs will be donated to supporting future DI teams at Van Horne)
Thank you for your support!
